It's just the tip of the control iceberg there. ALL employees have to
clock in and out every day. You have to fill out a daily status report
which no one reads on a regular basis - but you have to do it. And
then there's the project manager coming up to your desk every 30 mins
to 1 hour asking you what you are working on.

Just imagine if the US army decided to run a Perl shop and you have a
good idea of what you are getting into - excellent benefits, great pay
and benefits (a spouse gets free med/life/dental benefits and you get
them as well... on top of a highly competitive salary and quarterly
bonuses), but a very very strict control structure that makes you feel
like you are under constant suspicion for being incapable.
