It really depends. I think the top people in the Perl community have their entire heart and soul into it and take what they do almost as seriously as life itself. It doesnt make sense to put one's work time and free time into something and then try act like it is not a source of fulfillment. And like I said, I have realized that I take Perl much more seriously than it just being a job. It is a creative outlet for me. Some people have the ability for Perl to be just another way to collect a check and not wear their heart on their sleeve, but not me.
