It's fascinating just how small our industry is.  People who you'd  
never imagine you'd run into again cross your path.

You're right about "behind the scenes", too.  I can think of at least  
two examples of someone emailing me about a resume that's crossed his  
or her desk, asking "Hey, Andy, don't you know this guy?", and I've  
had to warn the person away from hiring the candidate.  In one case,  
it was entirely based on what I'd seen in his behavior on mailing  
lists and at conferences.
