Kindest Regards, Ian Tynan Sr. IT Account Manager IT Contracts since 1995 (o) 310-356-8123 x111 (f) 310-868-0663 [email protected] Check out, my profile: http://www.linkedin.com/in/iantynan -----Original Message----- From: Andy Lester [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, December 21, 2006 9:38 AM To: L-Perl-Jobs-Discuss Subject: The Career Manifesto http://petdance.com/blog/2006/12/the_career_manifesto.html This brilliant list comes from http://www.gapingvoid.com/ Moveable_Type/archives/003541.html . 1. Unless you're working in a coal mine, an emergency ward, or=20 their equivalent, spare us the sad stories about your tough job. The=20 biggest risk most of us face in the course of a day is a paper cut. 2. Yes, your boss is an idiot at times. So what? (Do you think=20 your associates sit around and marvel at your deep thoughts?) If you=20 cannot give your boss basic loyalty, either report the weasel to the=20 proper authorities or be gone. 3. You are paid to take meaningful actions, not superficial ones.=20 Don't brag about that memo you sent out or how hard you work. Tell us=20 what you achieved. 4. Although your title may be the same, the job that you were=20 hired to do three years ago is probably not the job you have now.=20 When you are just coasting and not thinking several steps ahead of=20 your responsibilities, you are in dinosaur territory and a meteor is=20 coming. 5. If you suspect that you're working in a madhouse, you probably=20 are. Even sociopaths have jobs. Don't delude yourself by thinking=20 you'll change what the organization regards as a "turkey farm." Flee. 6. Your technical skills may impress the other geeks, but if you=20 can't get along with your co-workers, you're a litigation breeder.=20 Don't be surprised if management regards you as an expensive risk. 7. If you have a problem with co-workers, have the guts to tell=20 them, preferably in words of one syllable. 8. Don't believe what the organization says it does. Its=20 practices are its real policies. Study what is rewarded and what is=20 punished and you'll have a better clue as to what's going on. 9. Don't expect to be perfect. Focus on doing right instead of=20 being right. It will simplify the world enormously. 10. If you plan on showing them what you're capable of only after=20 you get promoted, you need to reverse your thinking. My favorites are #6 and #9. I'm devoting a chapter in Pragmatic Job=20 Hunting to the ideas hidden within #6, which technical people are=20 notoriously bad with. xoxo, Andy -- Andy Lester =3D> [email protected] =3D> www.petdance.com =3D> = AIM:petdance =20 <http://650944.sigclick.mailinfo.com/sigclick/04060109/050D4A09/0B07054C /0382310196.jpg> =20 ------_=_NextPart_001_01C7252F.C45E2498 Content-Type: text/html; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable

<META HTTP-EQUIV=3D"EXPIRES" CONTENT=3D"0"> <META HTTP-EQUIV=3D"EXPIRESABSOLUTE" CONTENT=3D"Tue, 01 Jun 1999 = 12:00:00 GMT"> <META HTTP-EQUIV=3D"PRAGMA" CONTENT=3D"NO-CACHE"> <META HTTP-EQUIV=3D"CACHE-CONTROL" CONTENT=3D"PRIVATE"> <META HTTP-EQUIV=3D"CACHE-CONTROL" CONTENT=3D"NO-CACHE"> <META NAME=3D"Generator" CONTENT=3D"MS Exchange Server version = 6.5.7036.0">

I strongly believe, your actions are directly = proportional to your results and what you receive...

Kindest Regards,

Ian Tynan
Sr. IT Account Manager
IT Contracts since 1995
(o) 310-356-8123 x111
(f) 310-868-0663
[email protected]

Check out, my profile: <A = HREF=3D"http://www.linkedin.com/in/iantynan">http://www.linkedin.com/in/i= antynan

-----Original Message-----
From: Andy Lester [<A = HREF=3D"mailto:[email protected]">mailto:[email protected]]
Sent: Thursday, December 21, 2006 9:38 AM
To: L-Perl-Jobs-Discuss
Subject: The Career Manifesto

<A = HREF=3D"http://petdance.com/blog/2006/12/the_career_manifesto.html">http:= //petdance.com/blog/2006/12/the_career_manifesto.html

This brilliant list comes from <A = HREF=3D"http://www.gapingvoid.com/">http://www.gapingvoid.com/
Moveable_Type/archives/003541.html .

1.
