Why do tit-for-tat?   Just be nice, end of story.

I agree with Joe - if you aren't treated reasonably, tell someone if  
possible and then give notice / quit.   There's never a reason to be  
a jerk.

Three examples:

1) When I've helped companies interview people, my downwards thumb is  
much heavier when I suspect the candidate might be hard to work with  
- typically variations on being a jerk.

2) The people I've seen leave somewhere with a slammed door or just  
disappearing are completely branded.  For good reason!   If you get  
stuck in a project with loose threads, you don't care why and what  
problem he had with who, but you sure remember who left the mess.     
As someone pointed out, our industry isn't that big.  You'll run into  
someone from there again.  Or one of their friends.

3) I am fortunate that I get offered a lot of work (no, ironically  
never through the site).  I like to think that it's just because I'm  
good at what I do, but really then a big part of it is that people  
generally think that I am Nice To Work With.  Sure, I often curse and  
moan about red tape and clueless people, but I try just doing it to  
my wife and a select few others.   Because in the long term, whatever  
idiocy you go through here and there really isn't that important.  Or  
if it is, give notice, wrap up and leave as politely as you can manage.

Anyway:  Don't be a jerk - it's not worth your energy or anyone elses.
