Description:
*** This position will be based in the home or private office of the
selected applicant, preferably in the Tampa, Tuscon, or New Jersey metro
area. Some work activities may take place within the nearest Discovery
office, depending on the selected applicant's proximity.*** 

Position Summary: 

The purpose of this position is to develop new programs and tools, as well
as maintain existing applications, to meet the mission of Petfinder.com and
assist our members. Successful candidate should thrive in a fast-paced,
dynamic, and challenging environment with minimal supervision. 

Responsibilities: 

1. As required, work independently or as part of a team to quickly develop
quality online interactive applications and creative programs and tools. 
2. Work with members of the tech support team to develop and support
systems to import adoptable pet data and resolve user issues including
account access, classified postings, search issues , and other technical
issues that require program or systems support. 
3. Interact with members of the outreach team and other departments to help
implement new strategies and projects, and attend and actively participate
in regular meetings with other departments for the purpose of cross
department strategies and updates on current and future issues. 
4. Quickly update content on the site when necessary. Respond to reported
issues as needed, in a logical and timely fashion, with a close eye on
prioritizing the severity of each incident. 
5. Keep appropriate records of all tasks this includes using a
documentation wiki, bug tracker and other tracking mechanisms as well as
submitting progress and weekly highlight reports.

Petfinder Overview
Petfinder is an on-line, searchable database of animals that need homes. It
is also a directory of over 9,000 animal shelters and adoption
organizations across the USA, Canada and Mexico. Organizations maintain
their own home pages and available pet database. 
Our mission: to use Internet technology and the resources it can generate
to 1) increase public awareness of the availability of high-quality
adoptable pets and to 2) increase the overall effectiveness of pet adoption
programs across North America to the extent that the euthanasia of
adoptable pets is eliminated.


Required skills:
Requirements: 

* This position requires a high degree of organization, independent
judgment and the ability to pursue multiple priorities at once with an
attention to detail. 
* Minimum of two years experience in LAMP applications with advanced
knowledge and ability with Linux, Apache, PERL / mod perl, PHP and MySQL
and proficiency with HTML and Javascript. 
* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of proven experience in a position
of similar responsibility required. 
* Must be trustworthy and able to maintain an even disposition and deal
effectively with people from all backgrounds, must demonstrate strong
customer service and communication skills 
* Must have strong work ethic and ability to manage own day and work from a
remote office requiring minimal supervision. 
* Able to travel to meetings about every 6 – 8 weeks on average. 
* Legal right to work in the United States.
