Description:
*** This position will be based in the home or private office of the
selected applicant, preferably in the Tampa, Tuscon, or New Jersey metro
area. Some work activities may take place within the nearest Discovery
office, depending on the selected applicant's proximity.*** 

Position Summary: 

Design and develop interactive web-based consumer facing applications. This
position will be involved in all phases of the development life-cycle, from
needs assessments to implementation, designing, coding, testing, debugging,
maintenance and support. Successful candidate should thrive in a
fast-paced, dynamic, and challenging environment. 

Responsibilities: 

1. As required, work independently or as part of a team to quickly develop
quality online interactive applications and creative programs and tools. 
2. Work with web designer to develop and maintain html templates for
Petfinder.com 
3. Merge backend code with streamlined user interface 
4. Develop Flash applications for Petfinder.com and Petvideo.com 
5. Manipulate video formats for conversion to flash format 
6. Develop, maintain and troubleshoot CSS Style sheets, JavaScript and
XML/XSL applications used across the site 
7. Integrate Flash interactives using AJAX technologies 
8. CMS Development/Enhancements 
9. Prototype and build web-based application features, focusing on
aesthetics and ease of use. This includes leading and collaborating on the
specification, prototyping, design, development, testing, documentation and
maintenance of web software components.

Petfinder Overview

Petfinder is an on-line, searchable database of animals that need homes. It
is also a directory of over 9,000 animal shelters and adoption
organizations across the USA, Canada and Mexico. Organizations maintain
their own home pages and available pet database.

to 1) increase public awareness of the availability of high-quality
adoptable pets and to 2) increase the overall effectiveness of pet adoption
programs across North America to the extent that the euthanasia of

Required skills:
Requirements: 

* This position requires a high degree of organization, independent
judgment and the ability to pursue multiple priorities at once with an
attention to detail. 
* A minimum of 5+ years of experience is required with the following: 
* HTML/XHTML, JavaScript, Dreamweaver, CSS1 & CSS2 
* In depth knowledge of Macromedia Flash and supporting technologies and
scripting language 
* Minimum of two years experience in LAMP applications with advanced
knowledge and ability with Linux, Apache, PERL / mod perl, PHP and MySQL 
* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of proven experience in a position
of similar responsibility required. 
* XML/XSLT 
* TCP/IP, HTTP, HTTPS, FTP protocols 
* Ability to integrate with Perl 
* Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or equivalent experience. 
* Must be highly motivated and possess strong technical and communications
skills 
* Ability and interest to pick up new technologies as needed. Must also
possess the ability to troubleshoot, optimize, and customize existing
applications. 
* Must be a team-oriented individual, energetic, result & delivery
oriented, with a keen interest on quality and the ability to meet
deadlines. 
* Must have strong work ethic and ability to manage own day and work from a
remote office requiring minimal supervision. 
* Able to travel to meetings about every 6 – 8 weeks on average. 
* The legal right to work in the United States.
