Yep, I'd noticed. :)  

If PAUSE & the CPAN master mirror are the delivery mechanism for the
sdk then the EAR doesn't matter.  If perl.(com|org) is, or if O'Reilly
(or someone else) wanted to make an SDK CD, then the EAR does matter.

Anyway, I'm going with Nat's best-of-all-possible-worlds suggestion
for now.
