I always show the language comparison that's in the back of "The Java
Language Environment", October 1995. Java scores best (surprise?), but
the comparison immediately shows that Perl is the second best (10.5
out of 12 points). Third is SmallTalk (8.5 points).

The points that Perl misses are easily explained, and since the
comparison is from a Perl-independent organisation its very
convincing.
