One thing I do is take my Perl library along to courses when possible
(usually not when I'm travelling, ugh the excess baggage costs!) and let
the students look over what I've got while I talk a bit about each book
and what it's good for. The books I show them include:
Programming Perl
Learning Perl
Advanced Perl Programming
The Perl Cookbook
Mastering Regular Expressions
Object Oriented Perl
Perl in a Nutshell
Effective Perl Programming
(yes, it's a boxful)
Just getting them out and waving them around is really useful, I've
found. The trainees often come up to me at the lunchbreak or after
class to read them, and I'll sometimes let them borrow them overnight.
