150,000 Years Old Shelter Sheds Light on Human Evolution

Archaeologists in Tajikistan have found an old rock shelter
along a stream that may have served as a resting place for
ancient humans, providing insight into human evolution. It
is believed that this site saw waves of visitors for over
130,000 years.

. . .

This should produce some very interesting stuff !

Neanderthals, Denisovians and early humans all used
this location. Every layer is pure gold, so to speak.

Tajikistan is high and dry enough to have preserved
ancient materials, maybe even some DNA.

STILL can't find out much about H.erectus alas ...
they seem to have stuck to tropical, damp, climes
which rot away everything. SOMEDAY we'll find
   a little DNA ........

I'm gonna GUESS that Erectus, esp later on, was
more or less as smart as Neanderthals and ourselves.
But HOW did they contribute to the global genetic
   mix and emergent cultures ???

Ya know ... "trolls" and "ogres" ... the descriptions,
likely prejudicial, ARE a pretty good match for what
we know Neanderthals looked like. Sometimes the past
CAN live on in the cultural lexicon if nowhere else.
