I think they do use the Jatco CVT transmission as does Nissan but they 
are designed for Subaru boxer.  I know there were problems in the past 
but assume improvements must have been made.  I know that they extended 
the warranty on older cars but have not heard that there are problems on 
the later ones.

I had a 2016 Forester with a CVT.  No problems but I had low mileage 
when I totaled it in 2019.  Now have a 2019 Crosstrek with CVT.
