That is a long standing Icon view mode bug since Windows 95 which Microsoft 
can't manage or even bother to fix. At least up to Windows 7 and Server 
2008. Where icon placements got reset and moved to the far left. Sometimes 
after reboot, and sometimes while working on the computer which may occur in 
random time but usually when installing/uninstalling a software. This also 
applies to folders other than the Desktop which uses Icon view mode.
