   The hardware-compatibility issue has greatly
   expanded since the Old Days. SO many new devices
   with SO many functions/params, all needing carefully-
   tweaked drivers. Sometimes you can't even tell exactly
   what version of what driver is required. Faster and
   easier to just switch distros and hope for better.

   The modern distros do an exceptional job at figuring
   it all out. Alas, once in a awhile ...

   And yea, I remember all those Slack floppies  :-)
