LayoutDefaultHandlers issue

Hello, I've compiled and installed mod_layout, all fine only i try to
set some options in my <VirtualHost> section and i get this error:
"Invalid command 'LayoutDefaultHandlers', perhaps mis-spelled or defined
by a module not included in the server configuration"
mod_layout is loaded but some configuration variables like this one
wont work. 
I saw on the mailing list that Brian had a similar problem,
but after "fixing" his virtualhosts configuration all worked fine..
what is to do? Other features, like LayoutFooter work. 
Do I need a <IfModule> tag? I did try this way too and didnt work
either.
