OH YES, I already suggested and got the ball rolling for the newer version 2.2.0, yesterday with our Information Security Officer (ISO), due to having a hard time locating version 2.1.2. AND, not need to remind you, but I work for the government and the wheel moving very slow, like "molasses dripping on winter day." That makes sense. Perhaps you could suggest to them that they review Audacity 2.2.1 which is due to be released later this month. It has a lot of improvements and bug fixes since 2.1.2, and well worth the update (which is of course free and remains licensed under GPL v2).
