That opens a can of worms. "Real" (i.e., audio hardware) CD players are
supposed to honor the pre-emphasis flag in the subcode and switch on analog
de-emphasis during playback. (I actually once had a CD with pre-emphasis
but the flag wasn't set, so it played back much brighter than the
corresponding LP; I used EAC to rip it and reburn it with the flag set, so
it sounded correct. I've also had CDs with the flag set but no pre-emphasis
actua;lly applied.)
The problem with pre-emphasized CDs is that EAC cannot apply the
de-emphasis so you get a bit-perfect rip that still has the overly bright
highs. Ripping to WAV and using something like Audacity to apply the
de-emphasis to the digital file can give you a good sonic result, but it's
no longer a copy of the CD.

<p>I don't think it will validate a single track by itself, but it
will validate (and, in some cases,
even <em>correct</em>) an entire album consisting of single
tracks.</p>
<p>It has a companion ripper, but EAC is more stable and reliable.
It's not that CueRipper doesn't
work <em>most</em> of the time, but in a lot of cases where EAC
will continue to work very, very hard to
get a clean read on a problem disc (often ultimately
successfully!), CueRipper will often just give up after a while
and throw an error.</p>
<p>The only real advantage I can think of to CueRipper over EAC is
that its current version
is better than EAC's current version at identifying discs/tracks
with pre-emphasis. For most
people that's really not a concern. For those of us who now openl=
y
identify as old and who
remember buying into CD almost from the beginning and who never
get rid of any media, it can
