Our EAC group needs a stable provider for whom listserver groups are a prim=
ary business focus. Google=E2=80=99s tendency to kill off services (https:=
//killedbygoogle.com <https://killedbygoogle.com/>) makes it a non-starter.=
We don=E2=80=99t need another Yahoo situation in six months or a year whe=
n Google decides that Groups are not profitable (enough).
Directly adding in members is a good way to get sued or run afoul of data p=
rivacy laws. I don=E2=80=99t have the right to hand over a couple of thousa=
nd other people=E2=80=99s email addresses to Groups.IO, Google, or any othe=
r firm. If you don=E2=80=99t trust Groups.IO, you may not want to give the=
m your primary email address =E2=80=94 maybe you want to give them a servic=
e-specific address you=E2=80=99ve set up on gmail or protonmail. Perhaps y=
ou regret having shared your full name and employer on Yahoo (e.g Kamir.Bha=
[email protected] <mailto:Kamir.Bhatt-2jDuttIhPCBCMj/3phTuiVaTQe2KTcn/@public.gmane.org>) and wis=
h to use a more anonymous email address on Groups.IO. That=E2=80=99s up to=
you, not to me, Don, Andre, or anyone else.
There=E2=80=99s a reason why Verizon/Yahoo didn=E2=80=99t just sell the Yah=
oo Groups business to some other provider; I would not be at all surprised =
to learn that the lawyers advised them against selling our archived message=
s and email addresses. (I=E2=80=99m not a lawyer, but I play one on the In=
ternet.)

for Don to be able to enter your new email address if you lose access to th=

to have a Wiki that provides information and answers to commonly asked ques=
tions about EAC installation, use, and configuration?=20=20
to set up subgroups that discuss topics like optical drive performance, cre=
ating media for streaming players, music players and tag editors, etc.?
to be able to invite someone having trouble with EAC setup to join me in a =
=E2=80=9Cchat=E2=80=9D on Groups.IO?
to take donations to pay for Andre=E2=80=99s hosting costs for Exact Audio =
Copy website and files, or to pay for the Premium tier of Groups.IO?
I see plenty of useful features there but, in the end, it=E2=80=99s up to D=
on and Andre to determine if the cost is justified and who will pay it. If=
each of the members on the Yahoo EAC group were to pay $.10 per year, it w=
ould completely cover the cost for the Groups.IO Premium service. So let=
=E2=80=99s suppose that only 10% of them join the new list. Then they will=
each have to pay nearly $0.10 per month! Oh the horror!
In the end, it=E2=80=99s up to Don and Andre whether the group opts for the=
premium option, but it=E2=80=99s a decision probably better made after the=
EAC Group is firmly established on Groups.IO.=20=20
