Lee, good to see you posting. This group is kind of quiet these days...

I'm not going to try to talk you out of it, but i will offer my  
experience.

I just recently sold my PT HD3 accel rig. I'm not looking back.

My last album (soul/pop/RnB) was done all the way to mix on a Logic 8/ 
MacPro 4core/Apogee symphony setup. (Mix on protools + an API console,  
westlakes, tons of outboard etc.)

I realize my rig can in no way compare with your massive (impressive!)  
setup, but I suspect the ONLY issue I had can't be helped even by a  
double 8core solultion.

I loved every second of my project except ONE thing:

When I was more or less ready to mix, meaning loads of plugins  
everywhere, and I suddenly realized I'm missing that extra keyboard  
part or guitar part, the latency was there.

What I mean is; I was not bothered by latency all they way to the end  
of the project. But still, if you want to have the TDM latency  
experience with NO compromises it COULD be a problem....

And the thing is; while I'm experiencing latency, 3 of my 4 cores are  
just sitting idle and one is struggling on the red. I suspect I would  
not be helped with a more powerful computer -
It's just the way logic handles it at this point . That might change  
with snowleopard and a rewrite of both Logic an AU specs, but that  
might take a while...

On the other hand:

If you can live with just pressing "low latency mode" in Logic and  
record away (when your project is getting big..), then you should be  
fine.
