What system?  If you have multiple drives, try out all of them and put 
any other data CD in the drives where SD is not inserted - this 
sometimes provokes SD to keep searching in the other drives.  
Specifically on Win98SE: Check the System directory of the Windows 
installation for a file "aspienum.sys" and rename it to "aspienum.bak". 
Let SD reauthorize itself (it should try to use the drive it was 
installed from) and then rename it back to the original filename.  The 
ASPI driver somehow changes the order in which drives are presented to 
the system and this leads SD astray.  These drivers are installed with 
many CD burning programs and Scanners.  This may also be true for XP, 
but there it is likely not so easy to move the driver out of the way 
due to the system file protection of XP.
