Hi Ken, You can have a partition on your boot drive, but it's better to keep a second bootable partition on a separate drive, just in case your boot drive has problems and you need to run Disk Utility or DiskWarrior etc. My 10.6.8 partition is about 18.5 GB - just enough for a system plus a few select apps. It's part of a second drive with other partitions for sample libraries and so on. Of course, the hardware has to be able to boot into the older system. I have a 2008 Intel Mac which does fine on 10.6.8 but newer Macs may not - you'll have to check. Hope this helps Regards - Colin ________________________________________________ On Apr 27, 2013, at 17:46, Ken wrote: > Hi Colin- > > Never knew you could partition a Mac and use different operating systems! > > Good to know. > Maybe I'll try that in the future. > > Of course I'll have to research it first. > Always thought of that as an old school Windows thing. > > Perhaps this is a silly question- > but how "big" is your 10.6.8 partition? > > I'd imagine you'd want it as small as possible, > to keep most of the drive space current. > Likely I have no idea want I'm talking about. ; ) > > thanks > > Ken > > --- In [email protected], Colin Shapiro <musos@...> wrote: >> >> I moved to Mac OS 10.7.x some time ago and lost the use of SD as it's a Power PC app. (No Rosetta in OS10.7) >> >> It's really a shame that Apple killed SD - wish they would release the code so that users could perhaps hack together a working version for Intel Macs. >> >> I kept a partition with 10.6.8 for various reasons, including running SD if I need it, which I often do if I have to call up old jobs using hardware. >> >> Pity that progress sometimes destroys things of value.... >> >> >> >> On Apr 26, 2013, at 15:03, Ken wrote: >> >>> Glad you got it to work. >>> I'm on a Mac >>> and about to move from OS10.5 to 10.68 >>> Most Mac users are ok w/ SD on 10.68, >>> so I don't anticipate a problem. >> > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------------------ The LUG has a new home: http://www.logic-users-group.com/ - To UNSUBSCRIBE: email sounddiver-users-unsubscribe-hHKSG33TihhbjbujkaE4pw@public.gmane.org Yahoo!
