I'm not an expert on Mac or Win, but I have a lot of old Macs on which I've run SD. I think 2.1 will only run on OS9 and below, I have it running on 68k and PPC macs (OS7-9). I have not yet tried SD3 on my G4 Tiger.

When I loaded SD on my Macs, it didn't read my existing synth files, a guy in here said I needed to change the file types so the Mac can read them. I used "File Typer" and set my files to "look" like proper SD ones, a simple thing that worked for me. 

But maybe I don't understand your issue.
