Musepack is not dead, not at all. Development has currently come to a 
halt, because the main developer, Frank Klemm, cant motivate to do 
anything with his PC. We are trying to help him to find his motivation 
again, and to find other contributors for the project. However, this is 
not easy, as Frank's encoder tuning ( especially his psy model ) is 
looked at as the most advanced opensource audio encoder overall, and 
other devs are simply scared to not be able to match with this high 
standard.

Decoder has always been opensource. There are a lot of openosurce 
plugins available using this decoder, like a XMMS plugin, a winamp 
plugin, a foobar2000 plugin, DirectShow filters, etc. . For your 
convenience, we will now start to upload the decoders to the existing 
CVS on http://corecodec.org/projects/mpc . I will inform you once this 
is done.

Frank's plan was always to make the encoder opensource, once it goes 
SV8. A couple of selected people ( not me ) have the SV7 encoder sources 
already, in case something should happen to Frank or his PC. We 
discussed already to make the SV7 encoder open, if progress on SV8 comes 
to a final halt.
