Mine reads upscale when I use local loopback and talk into the mic - My
envelope graph registers the audio amplitude as well in this mode. Caveat:
See my notes below on the modified SF software I use.

You will see "junk" going by on the spectrum analyzer graph most of the
time.  This is just the system noise generated by your computer motherboard
and power supply that gets into your audio card.  Typically, the noise level
is low enough where it won't register on the envelope graph. On the
Voiceprint graph, noise looks like blue snow and sometimes broken blue
horizontal lines.  I prefer the Voiceprint graph since it shows the last
15-20 seconds of audio.  The Real-time graph is too noisy to be very useful
(at least on my computer).

Whistle into your mic with a sustained single note and you should see a
horizontal red line in the spectrum analyzer Voiceprint graph. If you vary
the whistle frequency, it should move up and down.

If you don't see a horizontal line when whistling, then you are just looking
at noise and you have an audio hardware or mixer problem.

I don't know if you need to mouse-click on the local loopback connection
window to enable audio.  I use a modified version of SF that does not use
its built in push-to-talk feature. I think you might need to click on the
local loopback screen to give it the focus and then bop your keyboard
spacebar once to toggle audio on/off.  You could also use the VOX (voice
operated switch) feature to automatically activate transmission when the mic
picks up sufficient audio to trigger it.
