Looking at the patch you also need to add -p1 or --strip=1 option
so you should be able to just execute

patch -p1 -i zinf-patch

Also, when you run configure you will probably get quite a few errors  
about missing dependinces as zinf depends on quite a few other libraries.  
This is where RpmDrake is your friend, install the devel versions of each  
of the packages it complains about and you should be fine, assuming of  
course you haven't already done this.
