As I understand it, under the e-GIF, there are three areas where XML Schemas
are important:

- metadata schemas (eGMS, Dublin Core)

- presentation schemas (XHTML etc)

- the harder-to-define area of "data integration" where data is to be passed
"between systems". In my experience of web content management projects,
people tend to overlook this one altogether, believing that it's irrelevant,
and this can be a mistake.

But I can't imagine why anyone would consider any of these three to be
particularly the province of .NET as opposed to, for example, J2EE.
