RE: About Vignette 5.0

First of all, I am so glad to receive a response from a Vignette
employee in such short notice, thank you !

I have tried to attach the script as a word document but it will
probably get blocked as well. Anyway the script problem is only the tip
of the iceberg :).

Perhaps you might know this: there are only 4 companies using Vignette
in Turkey for the moment. The first one was the Superonline Portal
(showcased at Vignette's site) which is owned by our parent corporation
Cukurova Holding. 

As Turkcell, we started using Vignette (both on our web site and
intranet) a few months ago and we have had a number of problems ever
since (including some problems such as file uploads discussed on the
list).

Our main problem is the fact that when the Turkcell employees try to
update their content on www.turkcell.com.tr . On the development server
when the editors make an update the information becomes cashed. Then
once our department (e-marketing) approves the changes made, the content
gets transferred to the production server and becomes live. Frequently
our cache information gets deleted and we loose all content. The company
which has written the CMS interface to Vignette is Mapco
(www.mapco.com.tr) also owned by our holding company. However, they are
in the process of learning about the Vignette tool.

It seems so incomprehensible to me who has a marketing background that
one of the leading CMS tools (Vignette) could have so many flaws and
limitations built into it. 

I understand that Vignette only provides us with a platform and that the
templates written by Mapco (as you can see through www.turkcell.com.tr)
make all the difference. But Mapco says that Vignette creates additional
codes (which makes our average main page about 140 KB - considering the
connection speed in Turkey that's a shamefull situation for the top
visited corporate site in Turkey.

If you could email me your questions I will try to get specific answers
for you. Do you recommend we upgrade to Version 6.0 ? Would that solve
our problems? Would Mapco need to integrate all the pages once again (a
process which took almost 2 years) for the new version?

script are you using?  How are you doing the survey?
