i don't expect generic binary diff algorithms to perform well for compressed 
archives.

OTOH, i've heard that rsync (or a patched version of it) can autodetect 
tar-gzipped archives and use binary diff on the content.

if svn doesn't use any similar trick (no clue it actually does) OOo files will 
get next to no benefit from the storage point of view.
not a big problem anyhow as helge pointed out ;)
