I don't want to speak for Marc, but I will say that 2x development has 
not been taken "closed source", it's merely been reduced to what is 
essentially a one person effort.  His reasons for going about it this 
way are his alone, based on his own singular needs.  Marc isn't the only 
one who has taken a similar path.
