IIRC the proxy server keeps stats only on the aggregate of all the 
machines connecting to it.  Since I have so many there are always one or 
two machines that are down for one reason or other.  I need stats on 
every workstation to find them.  Also, using a proxy hides your rate 
information in the workstation logs making them far less useful.

I peek at my stats server graphs about once a week looking for 
problem-workstations.

LAN traffic is not a problem - I adjust the buffer size so that each 
machine has about 8-12 hours of work between refreshes.
