I think I have it, Kevin... not sure, but the error message didn't
appear. On one day I had entered a sale of money-market fund shares and
two transfers of cash to another account (not SellX's). MD's register
listed the transfers first, so it showed negative cash balances until it
listed the sale. Thinking that might pose a problem, I backdated the
sale by one day, creating a positive cash balance for one day until the
transfers took it back down to zero.

As I say, I don't know if that resolved the difficulty, but I seem to
have the lots correctly allocated and got no "incorrect number of
shares" message.
