Support varies considerably between different card makes and models.  For a

Note that the make of the card is very important.  I recommend cards built 
by Matrox, ATI, PNY, Visiontek (nvidia only).  With all other makes, your 
milage will vary.  Cards built by ATI partners are known not to work 
reliably.
