Thanks for info!

The analog control problem seems to be game specific - apparently s I just had a string of bad luck in picking games to try first with the analog sticks! I've since found that Hang On and Spy Hunter both work fine. So far I've definitely had problems in Demolition Derby and Pole Position. Missile Command and Millipede I had problems with, but that could have been just a calibration issue - I'll have to try those again - plus for those it really makes a lot more sense to use the mouse anyway, of course.

"Ah! Ok, effectively this is a problem. It isn't obvious that you must
enable them manually. The problem is that if the joystick is enabled,
the MAME core ignores all the keyboard inputs. Maybe I will fix this
for the next version and will enable the joystick as default. "

Does enabling joysticks really disable the keyboard? If so then making it on by default would just create the opposite problem, so that might not be the way to go either. If they can't both be enabled at the same time, then perhaps what is needed is just some up front documentation that explains why joystick control is disabled by default, and how to enable it.

Steve
