AC97 Support?

Hello all, I was able to get AC97 working in version .95, however some of the roms are running slower than in earlier versions. If this were my system I would just upgrade my system, however my friend isn't able to change his motherboard due to cabinet constraints. Does anyone know in what version AC97 stopped working well? I think it may be around .80, but I'm not really sure. We are planning on doing a rollback to when AC97 still worked and when his roms ran at 100%. Thanks for your help!
