Help! How do I compile Advmame with gcc 3.3.4?

My Linux distro (Mandriva 2006) installs gcc 4.0 by default. I get strange
performance with about 25% of the games loading to a black screen and
nothing else. When I press <esc> I exit gracefully - with no error
messages.

So I want to try compiling with GCC 3.3.4 like it says in build.txt. I
downloaded and installed it (in /opt/gcc-3.3.4). It's set up ready to go.

Now how do I force compilation with gcc 3.3.4 rather than the default
compiler (gcc 4.0)? I'm stuck not the linux commands or Advmame compiling
options. Hopefully someone on the mailing list knows!

Thank you,
Ken
