Two questions about ADVMenu and ADVMame

Hello,

I'm kind of new to all this, but have read my way through the documentation 
and forums so I have come a long way.

I have already managed to connect my pc to my Jamma cabinet. Got sound 
working under dos (7.0) and I have advmame and advmenu up and running.
I have used 'advv' to setup some video modes for use within both programs. 
It worked pretty well, I could play games but they all appeared rotated on 
my vertical monitor. Oh well...I got around that by of course rotating the 
screen. That also worked, but now I have to use my monitor controls again to 
adjust the VSYNC. Strange, I think. I would think the video mode remains te 
same, only other screen information is sent to the monitor. Or am I wrong? 
Does this sound familiar? Do I have to use 'advv' another way?

Second question:
Advmenu works, but displays awful. The text is unreadable, like there are 
lines missing or something (if you like, I can take a picture). Maybe a bad 
modeline? Is it wise to delete all but one modeline from the config file? If 
so, which resolution is best to use advmenu on a 21" arcade monitor?
