compiling advmame and advmenu

i'm trying to compile advmame and advmenu in damnsmalllinux using the generic instructions:

./configure
make
sudo su
make install

from these two pages:

i have the necessary tools and some optional libs, the only things missing are svgalib and the correct version of freetype. it compiled and even worked but i am concerned with the errors and warnings while compiling. it used sdl on x. it was really slow too. probably because it was on a livecd

i got these errors:

"pragma once is now obsolete" <-- lots of these
"Error 1" <-- at the very end
some cryptic errors about "blend" and file "os.o".

how do i fix those errors? also, the other tools were not compiled (advv, advcfg).
