I have been able to reproduce the above problem and indeed, disk stats 
are only shown if I start gkrellm with a medium inserted into my 
dvd-rom. Furthermore disk stats seem to be extremely low compared to 
what other monitors (iStat Menus) show. I'll have a look at both 
problems soon.
