The file list is currently limited in that it can only display a list of 
files from a directory.

It can not contain an arbitrary list of files such as that created from the 
command line, you will always only see a list of files there for the 
directory containing the first file from the command line.

The image view 'detaches' from the file list when it is displaying a 
collection; any action on the file list that activates a change to a new 
image will re-attach the image display to the file list. In the case of 
files given on the command line without the -l option there will be no way 
to re-attach to the command line collection.

I hope I did not make matters more confusing with my attempt at an 
explanation. :)
