Your response was the right response. When people are able to get the
product for free, but need paying customers, customer service needs to
be top notch. The money they are asking is near the cost of M$ products
(as much as I hate M$, they would have an answer more like yours, not
"When its Done", I didn't pay the money for the download servers, the
mirrors are just as fast as the subscription server, I paid to help a
project that is making a big difference in Linux.

If they want more financial support (I can't offer code support, but
subscribing was a contribution I could), then providing more than a 3
word response would have not offended me.

If I were to deploy this for my company, knowing a time-line (whether
met or not) would let me make a more sound decision.

You weren't blown off, that's the TRUTH. It'll be shipped when it's
ready. If they were to try to estimate a release date for you, and then
they ended up discovering a few showstopping bugs around that date, they
couldn't very well ship with those showstoppers. Yet, they'd have
announced a date, and so then people would rag on them for being late,
and they'd get a bad reputation! "When It's Ready" is the only real
answer for many software delivery schedules.

Also, I don't think Ximian's support services include the guarantee to
pump employees for internal release information. ;)

It'll happen when it happens... patience, man! We're all antsy with
    anticipation too, y'know.
