setup of evolution 1.2.3

i am trying to use an open source programe for the first time.( ximian evolution 
1.2.3 ) but i am having a really hard time seting up my mail account. evolution keep 
trying to log into the pop3 serveur with a wrong account login it does change my 
account login to user@popserver. instead of just using user . it there something i 
have to know in using these kind of program. please let me know. i will trully 
apreciate.
