What's your distro? That version is pretty old, updating Evolution
definitely is worth it, if available.

Nope, it doesn't. Evolution will use exactly the values you provided in
the account settings. 

Receiving Mail
  Host:     pop3.server.net
  Username: user

It will however display this as "[email protected]" when prompting
for the accounts password. This is just fine, as it is for your
information only, Evolution will not use this as the login.

Just try it. If it fails, please provide more information about what you
did exactly, how the settings look like and any error message displayed.


FYI: In order to uniquely identify the login to provide the password
for, you will need both username and host, as you can have multiple
accounts on one machine or the same username used for different hosts.
