You will need some basic Gnome packages. Actually, you already have
installed the most basic ones and a bunch more to use Evolution at all.

Still, which version? Mentioning the distro probably would be
sufficient...

So you seem to be missing the Gnome Icon Themes. Without them, there
sure is no image to be displayed...

Please install the Gnome Icon Theme package, if not already. It likely
is called "gnome-icon-theme" or similar.
