[bug #68037] pkg install -verbose should print output for more steps

Please use the bug tracker to post updates to a bug report.  The mailing list is intended as a read-only notification stream.  Info posted to this mailing list address won't appear in the tracker database where it is most useful.

Follow-up Comment #2, bug #68037 (group octave):

I'm on Linux where Perl is quite fast, and yet *generate_lookfor_cache* is
slow.  This can't be the only explanation.

Besides, the dependence on Perl is indirect through *makeinfo* which comes
from the Texinfo package.  We aren't going to re-write their code.
