The big problem (or the big benefit - depending on needs) is, that both sodipodi KDE and Win32 printing backends print everything via bitmaps. For internal PS driver it is possible to choose (only from UI) 'PS operators' or 'bitmap', depending on needs. It can be interesting excercise to hack pure PS driver to work with semitransparent shapes, gradients and so on, but seems that nobody has had time to do that yet.
