I don't know which distro you are using, I also don't know what clie you have but I'm running a Redhat 8.0 box with a Sony Clie PEG-S360. I use coldsync and J-pilot and all runs fine. My setup uses /dev/ttyUSB1 instead of /dev/ttyUSB0 as the correct port. You may try this. Also, I have my Serial Rate set at 115200. I'm not sure if the Serial Rate makes a real difference or not. I thought /dev/ttyUSB0 at first as well! Good Luck!
