  I'm not sure whether I can help you, but I'll at least make few rough
guesses and ideas about what could be wrong/doesn't work as expected.

  Hmm, I don't know anything about pressing the calendar button -- I
personally use just joypad action button (and reset) to enter bootloader
console).

  First, you should test whether wince still boots -- it should boot
properly if you don't hold any buttons pressed (after pressing reset, of
course:). Then you could test synchronization over serial port.

  Another idea -- are you using the correct serial port? Is the port
known to work? (by connecting pins 2 and 3 on serial port -- but be sure
to connect the right ones -- you should get echo in terminal emulator).

  This means that bootloader should display 'boot>' prompt.
