Sometimes I find the top bar useful.  Say the name of a file I'm editing
 or the pwd in an xterm.

I find that I use the drop down list rather than the next and previous
buttons.  I don't have the capacity to remember the position of the
windows.  And though I've gotten use to the way most themes put the
min/max or next/previous buttons next to the kill/close button I prefer
to keep it separated to prevent accidental closing.
