A couple questions:
-Can you set a manual address with this card and get on the network  
that way?
-Can you post the output of iwconfig?
-Is the network you're trying to connect to MAC-restricted ?

The fact that dhclient is hanging probably just means that it's not  
getting an address
rather than dhclient itself freezing up.

IME, any time you're not able to get an IP address hrough DHCP on an  
open WLAN,
it usually means that you don't have one of the underlying parameters  
on your wireless card configured properly.
Make sure that the card is set to AP mode off (not always the  
default), mode=managed (or infrastructure) and channel is set to the  
same channel
as the AP you're trying to connect to and that your ESSID is set to  
"Any".
Assign a static address with the proper netmask, broadcast, etc. and  
see if you can't ping somebody else.
