The simple answer is no. While there are JVMs available for the 5500, I
don't believe any of them work with software written for the Jeode JVM.
And that JVM won't run with OZ due to the hardfloat/softfloat issue.

Same answer. I just took a look at their site, and the description of
the app makes me think you'll get bad results if you use the
sharp-compat-libs. You can try, though.

I'm also an ex-Newton user, and I haven't found anything even remotely
like it. While I certainly appreciate my 5500, it's a totally
different beast than the Newton. I wrote everything I needed to have
with me on my Newton, but I mostly use the Zaurus as a password manager
and portable calendar. I'm using KO/pi and KA/pi for calendar and
addressbook, respectively, since it's ridiculously easy to sync against
Kontact on my desktop (KDE 3.5.5).

Honestly, from what you've described, you'll probably be better served
by using the Sharp ROM or one of it's derivatives.

Oh, and your earlier questions:

You won't need this. If you run across a package that gives an error
that it isn't installed, use the -force-depends switch to ipk or check
the Force Depends checkbox in the Package Manager options.

Hardfloat/softfloat. I understand that even with sharp-compat-libs,
Hancom Sheet is useless because it calculates things incorrectly. I
have not tried it myself, though.

It seems spurious. I hardly ever see it anymore, and I'm using the
stock 3.5.4 kernel, with root on a SanDisk 1GB SD card and the 64/0
memory split. I've since started building my own feeds from the .dev
branch of openembedded to keep up with software.

This doesn't seem to happen to me either, anymore. I installed the
timezones-america package and configured my home city.

P.S. If you want to get excited about something, check out Einstein:
<http://www.kallisys.com/newton/einstein/>. It's not usable yet
(there's a 2-3 minute delay between screen tap and response), but the
fact that it runs at all is amazing.
